about me

I am interested in how sound can tap into our subconscious.

My work always starts with a palette; finding the right tone, textures and colours for expression. I use the word texture a lot. I like to see my work as layers with the fundamental being the foundation. If I can get that water-tight then I know I can create something compelling and unique.

I am interested in how sound can tap into our subconscious and how it can transport us to vivid worlds, both real and abstract. I am interested in silence as a creative tool. I trust simplicity and subtly as I believe our world has far too much stimulus. I don’t want my compositions to be busy but I want them to be luring and hold you.

My work best-sits between the role of a composer and sound designer. In fact, I find it really difficult to pinpoint my role. I am a composer, designer, dramaturg, facilitator, creative…

I am constantly looking to natural landscapes for inspiration. I like to embrace the calm and chaos of the world we live in, and take pride in translating natures tones, rhythms and melodies into my work.

What People Are Saying

“Joseff is an extremely intuitive artist, I have collaborated with him as a composer & sound designer. He is excellent at developing a working language & developing a musical theme drawn from the sources being used whether it's a piece of text or generated from the ideas of others. Joseff really listens to the sound & musical needs of a project & is capable making engaging foley as he is composing a compelling score.”

— Jay Zorenti-Zakhid, Associate Director at Tobacco Factory Theatres

"Joseff’s soundscape was fundamental to creating the right environment for our highly complex promenade piece. He worked sensitively with a diverse community cast and within demanding space and time restraints. Importantly, he was a great team player - going above and beyond. Great artistry, great technical skill, great attitude."

— Jeremy Spafford, Director of The Old Fire Station on their production 'Atlantis'

“Joseff Harris’ soundscape of waves and abstract noises are interwoven with the text and heighten the tensions and emotions.”
